Writing in Color’s Creative Quote Challenge

Writing - ledes - quoteOn Saturday, I wrote about productivity and creativity, and about how they can work together. Sometimes it’s a good idea to take a creativity break. New research says it can even make you more productive! Have you tried it this week?

I also presented a challenge. It was a list of 15 inspirational quotes and a list of the people who said them in incorrect order. The challenge was to put them in order.

Where Do Creativity and Productivity Meet?

Creativity isn’t as mysterious as you think.

But it is a challenge.

Albert Einstein said, “Creativity is intelligence having fun.”

And yet, our fast-paced, career-minded, society has largely abandoned creative play.

Many companies have removed games from work computers and blocked interactive websites. But by grasping work too tightly have we lost the productivity that we seek? Albert Einstein believed creative fun was related to learning, effectiveness,

Happy New Year plus Something Free

Greetings friends,

Some new people have followed since my last post. Welcome! I usually post three to four times a month, except December. In December, traffic is slow on the internet and much slower everywhere else (and don’t even mention parking). I appreciate the visitors to my blog and especially those who park and sit a spell. I’ll have a new post soon. Until then, I wanted to say I enjoyed the holidays and I hope you did too.

You’re Writing it all Wrong… Maybe Not!

Do you know what the common thing about all creative people is? They’re all different. That’s the difficulty with trying to teach someone writing. The way I do it may not work for you. Have you even been told you don’t write the right way? There are rules for grammar, punctuation, and organization. Those are the agreed upon road signs that let the reader know where they’re going. But, how you write is as individual as you are.

Free Resources – Sparkling Gems of the Internet

In combing the internet, you stumble upon a lot of junk, but you still do it for those times that you find real gems. When you find them, you can hide them or you can tell others where you found the goods. I like to share what I find. I especially enjoy sharing those items that are both helpful and free. To Free or Not to Free

Should I write for free? Should I only write when money or other payment is offered? There are strong opinions on both sides of the freelancing fence.

The Debate:

  • On the plus side, having some bylines and credits doesn’t hurt, and this can be one way to start. Your next prospect is unlikely to ask how much you got paid for what you wrote.
  • You may choose to help a local organization,

You Could Spend a Fortune…

Writing/ You could spend a fortuneToday’s mail bag question is – What does a freelance writer need to get started? Ok, there isn’t a mailbag (it’s a literary device). You need a computer to make clean copies for mailing and sending files. Hand written manuscripts don’t make the cut, especially in crayon. Laugh, but it happens. Another basic is an email with a real name attached to it, not CinnamonSugar @ hot-one.com. Keep it as close to your name as possible.

What is Writing?

"A writer looks at a screen or piece of paper like a canvas. They see a country unexplored, a picture unpainted, a tale not told. They dare to venture into the barren land, explore its dark corners, and paint its pictures. Then they unveil the epic with the goal of compelling people to visit their newly discovered territory.”
