Have You Completely Missed Out on Valuable Writing Assignments?

Is it possible? You’ve submitted to everyplace everywhere. Is there a missing page in those writing books? Did that writing seminar leave something out?  Seminars, reading, submitting and even self-publishing are ways to success, and partial definitions of it. But, they’re not the only ones.

Writing in Color’s Creative Quote Challenge

Writing - ledes - quoteOn Saturday, I wrote about productivity and creativity, and about how they can work together. Sometimes it’s a good idea to take a creativity break. New research says it can even make you more productive! Have you tried it this week?

I also presented a challenge. It was a list of 15 inspirational quotes and a list of the people who said them in incorrect order. The challenge was to put them in order.

Where Do Creativity and Productivity Meet?

Creativity isn’t as mysterious as you think.

But it is a challenge.

Albert Einstein said, “Creativity is intelligence having fun.”

And yet, our fast-paced, career-minded, society has largely abandoned creative play.

Many companies have removed games from work computers and blocked interactive websites. But by grasping work too tightly have we lost the productivity that we seek? Albert Einstein believed creative fun was related to learning, effectiveness,

Writing Process Blog Hop

I’m doing something a tad unusual.

I’m excited to participate in the Writing Process Blog Hop. I don’t do blog awards, but this is different.

  • I introduce the writer who invited me.
  • I answer 4 writing questions.
  • Introduce 2 or 3 other writers.

This fits with my blog’s purpose to encourage writing and writers.

It also interested me because there were no rigid rules as to when I had to fit my post in either.

Important Twitter Advice a Little Birdie Told Me

Not all writers excel at crafting tweets.

Before my first tweet, I studied various articles about Twitter. Some had advanced techniques. Others covered Twitter basics. But I learned many key strategies hands-on. The wisdom I gained by doing so will help you with efficiency and with annoying fewer people. I’ll assume you know some basics. Twitter is a great tool for writers and bloggers when used correctly.

Another post I wrote,

How I Moved this Writing Blog Without Anxiety

I’d considered hosting my site for a while, but fear gripped me.
Move my writing blog to a new self-hosted domain? By myself? Talk about anxiety; that was it for me.

I moved past that fear to a blog that is smarter and cleaner than before. Some folks have asked, “How did you do it?” This is my story…to the best of my recollection.

This blog started as a free blog at WordPress.com.

Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired; Terrible for Decisions – Excellent for Writing

I once heard a dynamic speaker teach on making significant decisions.

He told us all to remember the word “halt”.

Halt is an acronym for hungry, angry, lonely, and tired. This leader said if you’re feeling any of those emotions strongly, then put off (halt) the decision. One or more of those strong emotions can skew your judgment and you’re likely to make an unwise decision.

The Nature of Steam – Writing Even When Everything Slows Down

I find steam-powered locomotives fascinating. These older trains take a lot to get them moving, but once they’re going it’s actually harder to stop them than it is to keep them chugging along. Picture those giant brakes and how much distance it takes for them to stop.

I wondered after the last month, and my last post’s difficult subject, how the next one would go. I settled on sharing a few things I’ve been “up to” in my “down time.” Yes,

It’s free when you enter your email to receive content updates. Your email is safe. I post 3-4 times a month. I make sure it's worth your time first.

What is Writing?

"A writer looks at a screen or piece of paper like a canvas. They see a country unexplored, a picture unpainted, a tale not told. They dare to venture into the barren land, explore its dark corners, and paint its pictures. Then they unveil the epic with the goal of compelling people to visit their newly discovered territory.”
